FNM Chairman & Carmichael Candidate Desmond Bannister

I note with interest a letter to the Editor printed in The Nassau Guardian on 20th February, 2007, by one Felix Mailman Bowe.

The letter alleges that I attacked the character of Bowe and Mr. John Carey publicly and made disparaging remarks about Bowe.

For the record, I made no attack on Mr. Carey’s character. I pointed out the fact that Mr. Carey had made numerous promises to Carmichael in 2002. These promises were embodied in Mr. Carey’s five year plan for Carmichael. I simply pointed out several of his many unkept promises, and asked Carmichael to reflect on the issue of trust as it relates to an MP who makes promises that he does not keep. For the record, my entire speech is available on the internet at www.freenationalmovement.org.

I never have nor will I ever engage in the nasty underhanded attacks which my political opponents have sought to level at me in recent times. My speech dealt solely with issues which affect the constituents of Carmichael, and I will continue to focus on such issues throughout my campaign. If Mr. Bowe feels that focusing on Mr. Carey’s unkept promises is an attack on his character, then so be it.

It is clear that the letter writer must be suffering from a guilty conscience. At no time did I ever mention Mr. Bowe by name in any public place as he alleges.

At the recently held F.N.M. rally at the Golden Gates Shopping Centre, I referred to someone who was tainted with his involvement in the Korean boat scandal, and indicated that this person was being taken into homes in Carmichael. It is this statement that Mr. Bowe has taken as a reference to himself.

From the context of my speech, the only person who could possibly have thought that I was referring to him was one who was tainted by the Korean boat scandal. As Mr. Bowe has indicated that he feels I was speaking about him, he must be identifying himself publicly as such a person, since I never did so.

Who the cap fits, let him wear it.
