Utilizing a $9.4 million European Union grant to The Bahamas along with funds from the public treasury, the FNM government will repave roads in Acklins and Ragged Island, bringing much needed relief to residents on those islands.
The government will also undertake the resurfacing of the airport at Ragged Island, and will construct a new harbour facility at Gun Point, Ragged Island.
This harbour, when completed, will be a significant asset in enhancing the country's national security, as it will service the Royal Bahamas Defence Force and better enable the Force to monitor this active portion of our waters against poaching, illegal migration, drug and gun smuggling, human trafficking and other illicit activities.
The facility will also service mail boats to the island.
It was the FNM government of the 1990's which paved the roads in Acklins that have since fallen into disrepair. It is now this FNM government which again is undertaking the work to repave those roads.
Contracts for the infrastructural works are to be signed by the end of November.
